Information About the Family Foundations Project

Are you or your partner pregnant? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a free parenting program for expecting parents. Participation also allows you to be a part of paid research examining the benefits of this program for parents and children.

Researchers at UB, RIT, and Penn State are conducting a virtual parenting program for pregnant women and their partners. The focus of the program is on positive parenting and infant development. There may also be a health component that supports decisions regarding drinking during pregnancy and/or provides additional help for decisions to cut down for both parents. The program and research involvement will begin before the birth of your baby and continue into the first 6 months of your baby's life. We will then follow up with you again once your child is 12 months old. You and your partner would both receive compensation for your time for research appointments. We first need to determine if you and your partner are eligible for the program.

Your participation in this brief eligibility screening is completely voluntary, and your refusal to participate will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. You can complete the eligibility screening now or over the telephone (please see contact information below).

If you are eligible, we will describe the program in detail. Briefly, we will ask you to:
  • Participate in the Family Foundations or Healthy Foundations parenting program with your partner.
  • Participate in the research component that will examine the benefits of the program
If you complete the screening survey now, please be aware that:
  • Your answers are recorded in a secure web form
  • Your answers are completely confidential
  • Individual records of the study will be kept private, and any personally identifying information regarding you will not be made publicly available
  • Only project staff will have access to the information you choose to provide
  • Project staff will contact you if you are eligible for the study and the parenting programs
  • If you are not eligible for the study, your information will be used to help us note the number of parents who are ineligible and understand reasons for ineligibility
  • If you are not eligible, we will send you referrals to other University affiliated research programs.

While you may find a few questions a bit personal, all the answers you give will be recorded without your name and will be kept private. Participation in the screening, the program, and research, are completely voluntary, and you may choose to stop the screening or participation at any time. You will not be penalized in any way for choosing to stop before you are finished or choosing to not complete the screening at all.

By submitting the screening, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the above information.
